Monsurat Omolara Adeleke,
Monsurat began her nursing journey as a midwife in Nigeria, where she witnessed the impact of untreated mental health concerns and the stigma that can surround seeking help. After moving to the United States, she continued her nursing career in medical-surgical nursing and later in behavioral health.
Through these experiences, she saw how closely mental health can intersect with physical health and everyday life. Her desire to provide more comprehensive psychiatric care led her to pursue advanced education and become a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner.
Maternal Mental Health
Her interest in maternal mental health is also personal. After experiencing postpartum depression following the birth of her first child, she developed an even deeper understanding of how difficult it can be to need support while feeling that you are expected to be okay.
That experience informs her empathy and commitment to creating a space where mothers can speak honestly about what they are experiencing without judgment.
